any knitters out there... you are probably familiar with the wonderfulness of Rowan's Lima yarn!!! if you aren't a knitter, let me just tell you... it's like working with butter!
i LOVE this yarn. it has a cool chain or braid look up close, but doesn't separate when working with it. the stitches are well seen, and i love the way the colors look marbled.
my mom and i have been drooling over the alana sweater in gray lima yarn on display at our local yarn shop. we have wanted to make it for awhile now. well, we draw names for Christmas, and i had my mom's this past one. so... i splurged and bought us both enough to make the sweater. and it gives us an opportunity to do a knit-along!
so... here's my beginning stages of my sweater. i chose an off-white / light tan color, while my mom is using a gorgeous deep blue.
i will keep more photos coming as the sweater progresses. right now, we are working on the first rows of seed stitches before we plow up the sweater in stockinette.
all i can say is "YUMMY!"
i have fallen in love with lots of jane richmond's patterns (janerichmond.etsy.com). i have decided to make a few of them for myself, starting with this oatmeal pullover.
i am nearing the end of the body section, finishing up the bottom 6" of ribbing. then, it's on to the 3/4 sleeves. i can't wait!
i actually started this project in another yarn with different size needles and ended up with a size to fit my daughter. it will fit her now with extra grow-into room. but i decided to put hers on hold until mine was complete to give me experience with the sleeves (haven't yet decided if she's getting 3/4 or long sleeves).
i'm about 60% complete on mine... if not a bit more. should be wrapping up soon, and i will post finished photos.
i have taken on a challenge for 2011. i have launched Operation RGB 2011.
what does RGB stand for? reach out. give back. bless others.
there are too many needs in this world not to jump in with both feet and help. and lots of them can intersect my love of knitting!
i have decided to use my talent and hobby as a way to reach those in need, give back to those who have blessed and supported me, and bless those that mean a lot to me.
how will it work? each month, i will be reaching out, giving back, or blessing others with some form of knitted item (or items).
who can participate? i challenge you to join me in this and use your talents to give to the world around you. you can participate in charities (like my January and February challenges), donate items to churches for others in need, or just choose to make something for family and friends.
for January, i am joining several knitters and crocheters from around the U.S. in making adorable hats for a campaign by Warm Up America called Caps for Good. the hats are for newborns in Africa, Asia, and Latin America that don't have enough to keep them warm... a critical part of surviving the first weeks of life.
